Job Description: Paramedic Services Deputy Chief of System Integration and Innovation
This new position reports to the Paramedic Services Chief and assists with cost-effective and safety-centered system integration within Paramedic Services, and with external partners, exercising authority as delegated and approved through the Chief. The Deputy Chief of System Integration and Innovation (SII) coordinates people resources, continuous quality improvement initiatives, and other activities that support daily paramedic operations. The role supports and oversees the implementation of approved operational and administrative processes, policies, and practices to support efficient service delivery, while meeting or exceeding regulatory standards and requirements, by delegating tasks to paramedic and leadership staff. The position oversees multiple portfolios including professional standards, staff performance and training and non-emergency response programming (Community Paramedicine). The role works closely with the Paramedic Services Chief and Deputy Chief of Operations to support them in fulfilling their responsibilities, as required. The Deputy Chief of System Integration and Innovation also monitors system trends and recommends program and policy changes and develops processes to adapt to new and changing service delivery mandates and needs.
The Deputy Chief of SII supports processes relating to managing Paramedic Services-related: complaints and investigations, policy application, training, development activities, and works collaboratively with Human Resources in accordance with approved policies, procedures, and
collective agreements. Additionally, the Deputy Chief of SII is responsible for: liaising with internal partners, primarily Human Resources, in supporting employees, including with return-to-work, return-to-practice, stay-at-work efforts, as well as with recruiting and onboarding practices; and other areas of system integration within Paramedic Services.
The new role will back up the Deputy Chief of Operations position, responsible for: fleet procurement and maintenance; infrastructure management; equipment and supply sourcing and administration; logistics response, including personal protective equipment and uniform oversight; monitoring the utilization of Paramedic Services resources to ensure efficiency; deployment strategies integration; infection prevention and control; and other system supports.
